"Strategic's 2nd Eastern Mediterranean IT & TELECOMS Forum 2002",
The New Realities of Digital Economy in E. Mediterranean, subject of an International Conference in Cyprus

Athens, 14 December 2001 - Perhaps, the most important event for IT, Telecoms and Internet in E. Mediterranean, will be held on the 25th and 26th of February 2002, at Çilton Hotel in Nicosia, under the basic theme "The Digital Economy in E. Mediterranean and The New Realities - Growth Strategies in a Global Competitive Environment".
The Forum is organized by Strategic International / K.Kataras SA, the well-known Strategy Consulting Firm in Telecommunications, Information Technologies, New Media and the Digital Economy.
The meeting takes place at a time when Cyprus and E. Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, etc.) are in search of new successful strategies in a strongly competitive environment.

According to market statistics at the end of 2000, the total number of PCs is estimated at 7,89 millions only in Mediterranean countries. The share of business PCs, and Home PCs is estimated at about 80% and 20% respectively.
Regarding Internet users at the end of 2000, the total number in Mediterranean countries is estimated at 4,68 millions, while Israel, Cyprus, Lebanon and Malta present the higher Internet penetration between 6,7 and 17,41 users per 100 inhabitants.

In Cyprus, in particular, Telecoms and IT markets represent the 7% of the country's GDP for 2000, while the growth rates of IT, for 2000, were extremely high (25,81%), according to Strategic International estimates.
