This year’s edition comes at a time when the global technology sector is under considerable pressure. However, the SEEurope and EMed countries are hardly affected by these global developments, having their own race to catch up the developed countries and thus are presenting attractive growth rates in their IT and TELECOMS markets.
Regarding IT:
Greece: A Steady Growth for IT
The Greek IT Market of 2001 reached the size of 2025,5 mil €, rising by 19% from 2000. Despite the high expectations of the past, Information Technologies in Greece failed to fulfill their promises and repeat the skyrocket course of the last five years. The sudden drop in growth rates was not all that due to the worldwide crisis in High-Tech. On the contrary, apart from the terrorist attack against NY of September 11th, which did have a negative impact, regional particularities were the ones to blame for the sudden drop in Market size growth rates.

Cyprus IT Market Moves Steadily Upwards
The Cypriot IT Market, in 2000, was unique as long as there was a remarkable growth in the area of Services. The conditions seem to mature and the PCs market presented a higher growth than the expected, helping consequently all the sectors that depend on it like the education, the networking, the peripherals, the printers, etc.

In combination with the forecasts for a continuing growth of fundamental sizes of Cypriot IT market, plus the already high expenditure per capita in Information Technologies, 145 $ in 2000, the growth rates are expected to go slower the next years with a medium term stabilization a little bit more than 15%.
