Other distinguished speakers were:
The focal point of this year's event – that included a High Level Meeting the first day – was Competitiveness and Innovation for Growth, as well as, the Lisbon Agenda of the EU along with consequences and opportunities that arise for both countries and companies. Strategic's Digital World Forum 2005 was organised under the auspices of the Special Secretariat for Information Society of the Ministry of National Economy and with the support of the Forum Partners, organizations /companies that strongly support the Forum's effort to contribute in growth through the leveraging of ICT. Forum Partners for the 2005 meeting included: ERICSSON, INFO-QUEST, INTERMEC, MOBILE TECHNOLOGY, Q-TELECOM. Media Sponsors were the following: KERDOS, PC Magazine, OnLine, COM Business and COM.TODAY. Finally, the Forum was supported by the Special Secretariat for Competitiveness of the Ministry of Development. One of the meeting's points was, among other things, that member-states such as Greece lack in progress and that they should increase the growth rate by enforcing a targeted strategy, improve competitiveness and «digital readiness» (that is declining instead of converging), follow the “best practices” by adjusting them to today's conditions and study the major issues of «job migration», unemployment, foreign investments and the real liberalization of ICT markets. Following the example of top, independent, international “Think-Tanks”, Strategic International and the Forum will present a series of “communiqués” about its proceedings that have just been concluded as well as speeches/ interviews that have been broadcasted on television, radio and other media. This aims at improving the dialogue between political, business, intellectual and other leaders and key personalities as well as policy makers, so that this dialogue will contribute in the major development and social issues that Greece and the region are facing. The next day of the Forum, the President of the Forum and CEO of Strategic International, Mr. Costas Kataras, gave an one-hour interview on the financial TV station GBC TV, held by reporter Mrs. Nena Malliara and there are more interviews soon to be scheduled on TV, radio and newspapers. During the interview, there were issues discussed such as: Greece's Competitiveness and Digital Readiness, analysis of scenarios related to Growth and Employment, the “Irish Phenomenon” and why it can't be implemented now in Greece, the phenomenon of “the job migration” that appeared also in the sector of ICT in Greece, the role of OTE (Organization of Telecommunications of Greece), of Mobile phone companies and that of Alternative Telcos due to their extremely high tariffs in the country and their lack of investments. The examples of Better Practices for attracting investments in the area of technology coming from countries like Ireland , Finland , India etc were also discussed. Furthermore, issues like the role of international ICT companies (e.g. Microsoft, HP) in the transfer of know-how and in employment in Greece , the prospects and the shaping of scenarios for the country's growth were also treated. You can receive a copy of the DVD with the interview of Mr Kataras by sending us an e-mail at info@strategic.gr .
